Welcome to the second episode of the Washing Up Paper Plates Podcast.
It’s the big day. Today Barry leaves England by ferry and will cycle his way into mainland Europe. The bike couldn’t possibly be heavier. It’s the first real test of endurance. What could go wrong? Will it be everything he thought it would be? Will he find somewhere to camp?
Q: Why is it called Washing Up Paper Plates?
A: This entire bicycle touring trip is being done on a small budget. Many years ago I backpacked through Croatia on a similarly small budget and ended up washing up paper plates to use them the next day. This desperate, resourceful act encapsulates the philosophy of this trip perfectly.
